The day before the interview, the Ridge Review received an email canceling the interview altogether on advice of the city attorney.
While the new schedule change is appreciated, it can be difficult for teachers to plan out lessons with the shortened schedule.
Similar to the 2021 election, two groups of candidates have formed.
The team is actively working hard to improve their stamina for the rest of the season. Raptors running back Isaac Walker (#36) knows that his team will need to hone in mentally.
During the building season, the average member will put in about 18-20 hours per week. Eleanor Johnston explains, “our average team member goes in during build season about 18-20 hours a week.”
White went to East Ridge himself. After spending his freshman, sophomore and beginning of his junior year at Cretin Derham Hall in St. Paul, White transferred to East Ridge for his final four trimesters of high school. He loved it. The change of scenery helped with his fresh start at East Ridge.
A change introduced by the district has moved the location for all high schools in the district to the Aldrich Ice Arena in Maplewood.
While these smartboards are much more advanced than the previous ones, some difficulties have been pointed out. Young also says that “When I first started using it, I did not know that there was a freeze button, so when I tried to take attendance, I could never take attendance and have students working at the same time.”
We consulted one of the Physics teachers here at East Ridge, Mr. Howard. He explains that the reason that the wheels in our cars only continue slipping on the snow instead of moving when we try to accelerate is the weak amount of friction.
In the old policy, students could only retake up to 70%. The opportunity to retake for full points is new ground for East Ridge, and both teachers and students seem unsure how to navigate it.
The Sunshine Protection Act would keep the shifting hour of daylight permanently in the evening. However, this means that during the winter, the sun would rise much later than usual, which could be troubling for some Northern and Eastern states where the sun already rises late during the winter.
“I think the most challenging thing is feeling like there are so many people who truly need our help, but there’s only six of us. There’s a desire to be there for everyone, but we don’t always have the time to be as proactive as we want to be,” says Munoz.
Junior Dev Patel pointed out that “people who were misbehaving aren’t exactly going to follow it to a T, and for those who are, it just makes the system more convoluted.”
“To be honest, I kind of finessed the year,” states junior Hosanna Yonatan, “And I got vaccinated.”
English teacher Ms. Hamernick says, “I think that teachers are super creative people and that we can figure out how to best utilize the time that we have in the classroom and the time that students have outside of the classroom.”
The school is adapting to the unique circumstances streaming classes bring and changes have been made to help students and teachers adjust to the challenges and limitations of streaming classes.
Many cafeteria workers are struggling to get the supplies and food they need, and students are starting to notice how greatly that impacts their own lives.
In this year's school board election there are nine candidates running, including three candidates up for re-election. As the race has moved forward, two groups of candidates have formed.
